TikTok ads for small business can work when a local business makes short vertical video and budgets enough for TikTok’s learning period. WordStream’s August 2026 figures put typical TikTok costs at $0.30 to $1.50 per click and $4 to $10 per 1,000 impressions. In Adwave, TikTok is live and opt-in from about $91/day.
How TikTok ads work for a local business
A TikTok campaign has three layers, and you make different choices at each one. According to TikTok’s Ads Manager getting-started guide, you create an account and enter basic business details such as country, time zone, billing currency and legal business name. You add payment and complete verification if TikTok asks for it. Then you build a campaign by choosing an objective, setting a budget, configuring the ad group (audience, placement, schedule) and adding your creative. The objective is the result you want, such as reach, website traffic or leads, and it shapes everything TikTok optimizes for afterward.

Next you decide how you pay. WordStream’s TikTok cost guide describes four pricing models:
- oCPM (optimized cost per mille): TikTok shows your ad to people most likely to take your chosen action and charges per 1,000 impressions.
- CPM: you pay per 1,000 impressions whether or not anyone clicks. This model suits awareness.
- CPC: you pay only when someone clicks. This model suits sending traffic to a booking page or website.
- CPV: you pay when someone watches your video for a set time, usually six seconds.
Finally, you set a bid strategy. TikTok for Business offers two: Lowest Cost, which spends your budget to get as many results as it can, and Cost Cap, which tries to keep the average cost per result near a figure you set. For a first campaign, Lowest Cost is simpler, because a cap set too low can stop delivery before TikTok has learned anything.
What TikTok ads cost
TikTok publishes no price list. What you pay comes out of an auction, so published figures are ranges, and each comes from a different source with its own scope:
- Cost per click: $0.30 to $1.50 (WordStream, updated August 3, 2026)
- Cost per 1,000 impressions: $4 to $10 (WordStream)
- Cost per view: $0.01 to $0.07 (WordStream)
- CPM by objective, US accounts, Q2 2026: from $7 for reach up to $32 for lead generation (Affect Group’s account data, reported by Darkroom’s TikTok cost analysis)
The objective range has the biggest effect on a local business. A plumber who wants form fills pays far more per thousand views than a café that only wants people in the neighborhood to see its new menu.
WordStream lists the factors that push a price up or down:
- Competition: more advertisers bidding for the same audience raises prices. Finance, insurance and retail tend to cost more.
- Seasonality: Q4 and shopping events such as Black Friday run higher, so the same campaign can cost more in December than in February.
- Timing: the day of the week and the time of day change how much competition you face in the auction.
- Geography: US audiences cost more than lower-competition regions.

Why the minimum budget is not the real price
TikTok’s own budgeting guidance on TikTok for Business recommends a daily ad group budget of $30 in North America. Other published minimums are different. Stackmatix’s 2026 pricing breakdown lists $20/day per ad group and $50/day per campaign. Either way, the figure is what TikTok will accept, not what a useful test costs.

Small budgets fall short because TikTok’s system needs results before it can work out who responds to your ad: Darkroom notes that TikTok says performance settles at about 25 results per ad group. At a $20 daily ad group budget and the average 2025 cost per action, Darkroom calculates that collecting those 25 results takes about 41 days, by which point most of a test budget is gone and delivery is still settling. For conversion campaigns, Stackmatix reports that TikTok recommends a daily budget of at least 10 times your target cost per acquisition, so a business willing to pay $15 per lead would budget around $150 a day.
The practical approach is to start from the cost of the result you want, multiply up to roughly 25 of them, and decide whether you can fund that inside a few weeks. If you can’t, a smaller budget is better spent on a channel that learns faster. Our guide to setting your advertising budget walks through that math across channels.
How to add TikTok to an Adwave campaign
Adwave makes the ads from your website and runs them across channels from one daily budget, so adding TikTok happens inside the same campaign and needs no separate build. Based on how Adwave works and the Adwave pricing page:
- Paste your website. Adwave reads it for offers and photos and suggests the customers worth reaching.
- Review your audience and your ads. Previews include image ads, social video and a TV spot, and you can edit the creative before you approve it. You don’t need a card for this step.
- Choose your area: a radius, ZIP codes, a city or a national audience.
- Set a daily budget of at least about $91, the level where TikTok becomes available.
- Turn TikTok on in Customize and connect your TikTok account.
- Fund your prepaid wallet and launch.
New accounts start with an empty wallet, so you deposit before your first launch. According to the Adwave FAQ, card deposits carry the processing fee shown at checkout and ACH deposits have no added fee. If an optional channel such as TikTok can’t run at launch, the rest of the campaign still launches and Adwave tells you why.
Where TikTok fits among your other channels by budget
Each channel in an Adwave campaign opens at a different daily budget. The single daily budget covers media, ads and management, with no subscription or contract.
| Channel | Daily budget where it runs |
|---|---|
| TV | From the $30/day minimum |
| Google (Search and YouTube) | From the $30/day minimum |
| Facebook and Instagram | From the $30/day minimum |
| Mobile web and mobile apps | From the $30/day minimum |
| From about $35/day | |
| TikTok | From about $91/day, opt-in |
The ads in your campaign are included. If you order extra creative, the pricing page lists $6 per additional social video, $0.38 per image, $6 per 15-second TV spot and $12 per 30-second TV spot. Those charges come from the wallet and are separate from your daily budget. As a planning example, $91 a day for 30 active days comes to $2,730, and you can pause sooner.
TikTok is the last channel to open. At $40 a day, your campaign already runs on TV, search, social and Reddit, and TikTok isn’t part of the mix yet. Creative, measurement and what results to expect
TikTok depends on video more than most channels do. People scroll quickly, so ads that look like ads get skipped, and even a strong video wears out after a few weeks. Plan to keep producing short vertical clips. For example, a salon might film a 15-second before-and-after, then a stylist explaining one product, then a look at the booking calendar for next week. Each of those clips is a new ad with the same offer.

Measurement takes some care. TikTok offers limited attribution windows, and it often works early in a customer’s decision. A viewer may see your video, then search for you on Google days later. Under last-click reporting, the search gets the credit and TikTok gets none. If you judge TikTok only by last-click conversions, you will probably undervalue it.
In Adwave, you measure leads and sales by installing your business’s tracking snippet and choosing which actions count as conversions. You can give conversions a value to report revenue and return on spend, and the reports include assisted conversions as well as last-touch credit. That helps you see whether TikTok viewers convert later through another channel. Adwave doesn’t promise a particular return from TikTok or from any other channel. If people who saw your TikTok ads later click a search ad, retargeting across channels is how you follow up with them.
When TikTok is a poor fit
TikTok’s user base skews younger, so if your customers are mostly retirees, homeowners in their sixties or senior care families, start elsewhere. TikTok is also a poor fit if no one on your team can produce new video every few weeks, because one video run for months will wear out and get skipped.
Budget is the other reason to wait. Below about $91 a day, TikTok doesn’t run in Adwave, and given the learning period described above, a small TikTok test can take weeks to tell you anything. That money usually goes further on TV, search or Meta first. Facebook and Instagram ads for small business open at the $30 minimum and reach a wider age range, and Reddit ads for a smaller budget open from about $35 a day. Once those channels are running and your budget grows, adding TikTok means switching it on in Customize and connecting your account.
